Dilcia Giron aka Arlequin

If I would describe myself with colors, I would use the orange for the bright sun and warmth of my country; but I would also choose the green because it is the color that appears most frequently in the landscape of El Salvador.

I grew up in a magical environment. First of all because my father is a magician by profession; but furthermore because of the atmosphere I was surrounded by at home. Since childhood I worked in the circus with my father, mother and sisters, which created a fine line between different realities. Life in the circus was not always a success. I vividly remember once when our whole audience was one woman and my father said that we should perform anyway. In the circus I was a juggler, a clown, an acrobat, and a M.C.

My grandfather was a mythical figure to whom I felt very close and protected from anything and anybody. I had a magic place where I would hide to play up the Guava tree and its strong tropical smell. There, eating the guavas and playing with imaginary friends, I would feel as safe as I felt with my grandfather.

I didn’t know what to study when it was time to enter the University because my vocation lead to the arts and of course this was not an option for economical and practical reasons. "La Matas" as we called the "Universidad Doctor Jos Matas Delgado", is a private university where I began to study Graphic Design. Through the years my alter ego began to evolve: the harlequin. I liked to paint my face white and I felt close to the character that appeared in paintings and in the Opera "Pagliacci". It was a secret that I only shared with my father and later on with Juan Carlos aka Ki-rin.

To meet Ki-rin was to rediscover myself. Even though I had already heard some of his music and I had met him when I was six years old, I had not seen him since then because he lived here in the United States. I met him again while we was visiting my father in a very special journey he made for  this  purpose. Since the moment we met, we fell in love and I came to live in  the marvelous city of San Francisco. We have been working together since then, combining our different skills in creating music, art and graphic design.
