| "Canciones Prohibidas" means "Forbidden Songs" and this is a challenging ambient journey into very dark and forbidden regions of the collective memory of a whole country: El Salvador. In the 1980s terror visited this little Central American country. The now infamous Death Squads roamed the cities and the countryside, kidnapping, murdering and torturing men, women and children. Many people have heard of these events in the news. I was there when the terror was at its peak and I lived through it. In this CD I have attempted to recreate and bring back the mood of the time, to bring back the dark red cloud that came over everyone and seemed to stay there for years and years. Even though it was all over the news, most of the world has never heard what really happened... My musical influences range from the Orb, Aphex Twin, Bill Laswell, Hearts of Space, FSOL and DJ Spooky to composers such as Stockhausen, Debussy, John Cage and Philip Glass. Only $10 |
